Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming: Service and Repair

AIR BAG DISARM

1. Turn ignition Off, then disconnect both battery cables.
2. Wait at least 10 minutes after disconnecting the cables before performing any service procedures.

NOTE:  Always work from the side of air bag module.

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is designed to retain enough voltage to deploy the air bag for a short time even after the cables have
been disconnected. Performing service before the minimum 10 minute lapse may cause unwanted deployment and possible injury.

AIR BAG ARM

1. Turn ignition Off, ensure nobody is inside vehicle, then connect battery cables.
2. Turn ignition On and note air bag warning lamp operation, which should light for approximately seven seconds, then go off.
3. If lamp remains On, does not light, or continues to flash, there is an SRS fault. Refer to RESTRAINT SYSTEMS / SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS for

System Diagnosis and Testing.

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Wait at least 10 minutes before performing any service as system has back up power supply.

3.

All supplemental restraint system electrical connectors and wiring are yellow, do not use electrical test equipment on these circuits.
