Brake Proportioning/Combination Valve: Testing and Inspection

CAUTION:

Carefully monitor the brake fluid level at master cylinder.

Use new DOT 3 brake fluid. Be careful not to splash brake fluid on painted areas, it may cause paint damage. If brake fluid is splashed on paint
areas, wash it away with water immediately.

NOTE:

For models with ABS, disconnect harness connectors from ABS actuator relay box before checking.

1. Connect brake fluid pressure gauge to air bleeders of front and rear brakes on either LH or RH side.
2. Bleed air from the tool.
3. Check fluid pressure by depressing brake pedal.

Applied pressure should be (front brake) 5,394 kPa (782 psi).
Output pressure should be (rear brake) 3,138 - 3,531 kPa (455 - 512 psi).

NOTE:  Check rear brake pressure 2 seconds after front brake pressure reaches specified value.

4. Bleed air from the hydraulic system after disconnecting the tool.  See: Brake Bleeding/Service and Repair 
5. If output pressure is out of specifications, replace the master cylinder assembly.
