IGNITION KEY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE
APPLIED MODELS:
1990 M30
SERVICE INFORMATION
The ignition key on some 1990 M30 vehicles may be difficult to remove after putting the selector lever into the "Park" position.
This may occur if the shifter detent pin is sticking on the A/T position plate due to rough contact surfaces (Figure 1).
The rough surface may prevent the detent switch from activating the key lock solenoid - preventing or restricting the release of the ignition key. Use the
following procedure to resolve this condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1.
Follow instructions in the M30 Service Manual, page AT-10, to verify that the A/T shift linkages are properly adjusted.
2.
Inspect the A/T position plate for possible binding due to rough machining surfaces at the park position. Follow the steps below if roughness is
noted:
a.
Remove A/T position plate and lightly sand the pin contact surface to make smooth. NOTE: Do not remove excess metal.
b.
Apply a thin layer of lubricating grease (ie; C. V. Joint Grease, which contains Molybdenum) to the pin contact surfaces.
c.
Finally, check to ensure proper selector lever operation.
