TCM - Initialization After Transmission Replacement

THE NEW Q45 AND G35; TCM INITIALIZATION AFTER TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT

2002 Q45 (F50)
2003 G35 (V35)

SERVICE INFORMATION

If the automatic transmission in a new Q45 (F50) or G35 (V35) requires replacement, the Transmission Control Module (TCM) must be "matched" with
the new transmission. This process is called "initialization".

Use the instructions in the Service Procedure of this bulletin to perform this initialization process on an applied vehicle if the transmission is replaced.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Attach CONSULT-II to the vehicle.

2.

Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Confirm that CONSULT-II turns ON.

3.

Move the A/T shift lever to the "R" position.

4.

Touch "START" on CONSULT-II.

5.

On CONSULT-II, select "A/T" - "SELF-DIAG RESULTS".

6.

Fully depress the accelerator pedal (8/8 throttle), and hold it in the fully open position.

7.

On CONSULT-II, touch "ERASE", and then touch "YES".

8.

Wait 3 seconds and then release the accelerator pedal.

9.

Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.

10.

Move the A/T shift lever to the "P" position.

11.

Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

12.

Look at the A/T indicator lamp (on the instrument cluster). After 3 seconds, the indicator lamp "P" should illuminate".

13.

If the indicator lamp "P" does not illuminate after 3 seconds or illuminates immediately, return to step 2 and perform the initialization process
again.

14.

After the initialization process is successful ("P" illuminates correctly in step 13), turn CONSULT "ON" and check "ENGINE" - "SELF-DIAG
RESULTS". Erase DTC U1OOO (CAN COMMUNICATION LINE).

15.

Turn CONSULT II "OFF" and disconnect it form the vehicle.

16.

Test-drive the vehicle with 1/8 throttle application (engine rpm less than 2000). Vehicle should upshift through all gears at appropriate speed, 1-2,
2-3, and 3-4. See the AT section of the appropriate Service Manual for shift schedule specifications.
