Inspection -- Gently clean a small section of the surface with Prep-sol (or similar wax remover) using a clean towel (wipe in one direction) to remove any
polish/filler. Inspect the surface for swirl marks under full sunlight or a with a halogen 500 watt work lamp held at an angle about an arm's length away to
determine if swirl marks or spots remain. Polish again if necessary. When all marks are removed, the vehicle can be released for sale.

Buffing:

Clean and dry the surface before buffing.

Apply a small amount of buffing compound and spread it over the work area (2'x 2'or less) with the buffing pad before turning the buffer "ON".

3M materials require highly skilled personnel to buff with an 8" rotary buffer and the lambs wool pad at 1750 RPM on the G20 model only. Do not use a
lamb's wool pad on Q45, M30 or J30 models.

Meguiar's materials may he used by less skilled operators using an orbital buffer with foam pad at 1750 RPM. Meguiar's materials may be used on all
Infiniti models. Keep the pad flat and move it slowly but continuously over the repair area. Clean pad frequently.

Sanding:

1.

Soak the sand paper in water for at least 15 minutes before use. Mask the fenders and doors to reduce cleanup time.

2.

Sand with 2000 grit paper on a sanding pad. Apply plenty of water while sanding in one direction 12-15 strokes. Do not sand in a circular pattern.
Avoid sanding near body lines and panel edges.

3.

Rinse the surface with water and cross-sand with 2000 grit paper 12-15 strokes.
Cross sanding is helpful to see your progress, but may not be practical on contoured surfaces.

4.

Rinse with water and squeegee gently. As the squeegee clears the water, look for pits which remain. Cross-sand again with 2000 grit paper where
necessary. Repeat up to 5 times.

5.

Inspect the surface each time you squeegee. If the pits are too deep, the surface must be refinished. Refer to the Warranty Paint and Body
Self-Study Course, the Infiniti Flat Rate Manual or the Infiniti Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual.

6.

If the majority of the pits were removed and the remainder are few and small, buff and polish the repair area as previously described to remove
sand scratches.
