Water and Chemical Spot Repair

Use a 2'x 2' test section to determine how much abrasive cutting is needed to remove the spots. Follow the flow chart applying each operation several
times as necessary.

A buffing repair procedure (using Meguiar's materials) for the fluorine clear coat on the Q45, M30 and now the J30 was published in November, 1989.
The following procedure is basically the same with the addition of 3M materials. The G20 may be repaired with either product line.

IMPORTANT:
Use of a wool pad on fluorine clear coat (Q45, M30 and J30) is still not recommended. Use of the 3M buffing materials is acceptable for the G20.

3M Materials:

Towels -- 100% cotton terry cloth to dry vehicle and wipe off residues. 3M sanding and buffing materials are available at your local automotive paint
and body supply.

*# 5996 is dark in color to ease clean-up on dark cars, while # 5995 Perfect-it (white) is also available for light colors.

Meguiar's Materials:

Towels -- 100% cotton terry cloth to dry vehicle and wipe off residues.

Meguiar's sanding and buffing materials are available at local automotive paint and body supply.

Polishing:

Clean the surface of all buffing compound and any wool fibers before polishing.

Apply a small amount of polishing compound over the work area (2' x 2' or less) with a clean foam pad before turning the buffer "ON".

Highly skilled personnel may buff with an 8" rotary buffer and foam pad at 1750 RPM to remove swirl marks.

Less skilled operators should polish with an orbital machine and foam pad at 1750 RPM, keeping the pad nearly flat and moving it slowly but
continuously over the repair area. Clean pad frequently.
