Crankshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

1.

Remove crank angle sensor from engine. Leave crank angle sensor harness connected.

2.

Turn ignition switch On.

3.

Inspect crank angle sensor as follows:
a. Rotate sensor shaft slowly by hand, then using suitable voltmeter, check voltage between terminals 1 (90° signal), 2 (1° signal) and ground, 

Fig. 4, voltage should fluctuate between 5 volts and 0.

Inspect sub crank angle sensor as follows:
a. Rotate sensor shaft slowly by hand, then set a suitable voltmeter to 100 mV range, check voltage between terminals A, B and ground, Fig. 4.

Tester pointer should deflect.

If not as specified, replace crank sensor.

6.

After this inspection, malfunction (trouble) code No. 11 might be displayed though the crank angle sensor is functioning properly. In this case,
erase stored memory.
