Outer CV Joint

Disassembly

     Outer CV joint cannot be disassembled. If faulty, replace as a complete unit.

1.

Before separating joint assembly, scribe matching marks on driveshaft and joint assembly.

2.

Separate joint assembly with suitable slide hammer. Fig. 16.

3.

Remove boot clamps, then the boot.

Assembly

1.

Cover driveshaft spline with tape, then install boot and new small clamp.

2.

Set joint assembly onto driveshaft by lightly tapping. Install joint assembly securely, ensuring marks made during disassembly are properly
aligned.

3.

Pack driveshaft with 6.0-6.7 ounces of suitable CV joint grease.

4.

Set boot so it does not swell and deform when its length is 3.98-4.06 inches.

5.

Lock new boot clamps securely with suitable boot clamp tool.
