Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair

1. Remove vacuum hose clamp, then disconnect vacuum hose from power brake unit.
2. Disconnect brake lines from master cylinder.
3. Unhook brake pedal return spring from pushrod.
4. Remove snap ring from pushrod to brake pedal pin, then slide pin out of pedal.
5. Remove attaching nuts, then the power brake unit and master cylinder assembly.
6. Separate master cylinder from brake unit.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Torque locknut to 11-18 ft. lbs.
b. Torque power brake unit attaching nuts to 18-21 ft. lbs.
c. Torque brake line fittings to 6.5-11 ft. lbs.

OVERHAUL

The vacuum boosters cannot be disassembled for repair. Service is available only through replacement.
