Timing Belt: Service and Repair

TIMING BELT REMOVAL

Preparation: 
-

Battery negative cable.

-

Rotate crankshaft to position No. 1 cylinder to Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke by aligning camshaft pulley timing mark.

1. Remove the power steering pump drive belt.
2. Remove the air conditioning compressor drive belt.
3. Remove the air conditioning compressor drive belt tensioner.
4. Remove the generator drive belt.
5. Remove the cooling fan.

NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the cooling fan from the radiator fan shroud.

6. Remove the water pump pulley.
7. Remove the power steering pump.
8. Remove the starter motor.

9. Remove the crankshaft pulley fixing bolt. 

Use special tool J-38674 to remove the pulley fixing bolt.

10. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
11. Remove the timing belt cover.
12. Remove the timing belt.
