Starter Motor: Service and Repair
Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
Notice: Never operate the starter motor for more than 30 seconds at a time. Allow it to cool for at least two minutes. Overheating, caused by too
much cranking, will damage the starter motor.
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions. See: Service Precautions/Vehicle Damage
Warnings
2. Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Engine Exhaust.
3. Remove the brace rod from the front of the engine to the clutch housing.
4. Remove the starter heat shield.
5. Remove the wires from the starter solenoid.
