Front Differential
REMOVAL PROCEDURE

J8614-01 Pinion Flange Holder
Important: Observe and reference mark the positions of all the driveline components, relative to the propeller shaft and axles, prior to disassembly.
Reassemble all the components in the exact relationship to each other as the parts were when these parts were removed. You must follow any
specifications and torque values, and any measurements made prior to disassembly.
1. Remove the front underbody shields, if equipped.
2. Remove the left front underbody shield bracket.
3. Remove the bolts and retainers from the pinion flange. Accurately mark the propeller shaft and pinion flange.
4. Remove the front propeller shaft from the pinion flange. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement (Front Two-Piece Rear) or Propeller Shaft
Replacement (Rear Propeller Shaft) in Propeller Shaft.
5. Remove the front propeller shaft. Mark the following components before disassembly in order to maintain the same preload torque upon assembly:

Pinion Flange
-
Pinion Shaft
-
Pinion Flange Nut
6. Remove the pinion flange nut and washer. Hold the pinion flange using J8614-01.
7. Remove the pinion flange. Have a suitable container in place in order to catch the lubricant.
8. Remove the pinion oil seal by prying the seal out of the carrier with a blunt punch or drift. Do not damage the carrier.
9. Inspect the seal surface of the pinion flange for the following conditions:

Tool Marks
-
Nicks
-
Damage such as a groove worn by the seal
10. Inspect the carrier bore for burrs that might cause leaks around the outside of the seal.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

J33782 Pinion Oil Seal Installer
1. Install the new pinion oil seal using the J33782.
2. Install the pinion flange in the exact spline relationship as when the flange was removed.
