MODELS AFFECTED
1981 and 1982 Isuzu I-Marks up to vehicle serial number 0833469.
SERVICE INFORMAION
On the affected vehicles, traveling over rough road surfaces may cause a clunk in the steering mechanism. The noise does not cause damage to the
vehicle or affect vehicle safety.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
If a customer is dissatisfied with steering noise on rough roads, the noise can be dampened by the following procedure:
1.
Loosen the steering rack adjusting locknut and remove adjusting plug. (Do not lose the spring that will fall out when removing the plug) .
2.
After removing the adjusting plug and spring, remove the adjusting pad located just above the spring (See fig. 1).
3.
Replace the adjusting pad with the new type pad listed below.
4.
Reinstall spring, adjusting screw and locknut.
5.
Tighten adjusting screw to 3.6 ft. lbs. and then loosen it. Repeat this procedure twice.
6.
Tighten adjusting screw a third time to 3.6 ft. lbs. and then back off adjusting screw 1/12 turn (30~). Tighten locknut.
