Air Regulator: Testing and Inspection
WARM ENGINE THAT IDLES TOO FAST:
1.
Start engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature.
2.
Disconnect hose between air regulator and throttle valve body at throttle valve body side.
3.
Check for variation in engine speed by closing and opening end of air regulator hose. Variation in engine speed should be less than 50 RPM.
4.
If variation in engine speed is more than specified, replace air regulator assembly.
COLD ENGINE THAT HAS NO FAST IDLE SPEED:
1.
Disconnect the air regulator harness connector.
2.
Measure the resistance across the air regulator terminals. Standard resistance is 38-42 ohms.
3.
If the measured resistance is different from the standard, replace the air regulator.
4.
If resistance is within specification, proceed as follows:
a. Turn starter switch to ON and check for voltage at the air regulator connector.
b. If voltage is not present, check for a wiring problem or a damaged fuel pump relay.
c. If voltage is present but the engine has no fast idle, replace the air regulator.
