Parking Brake Shoe: Service and Repair
Lining Surface Break-In
CAUTION:

Perform the lining surface break-in when replacing the shoes with new linings and/or new discs (drums).

Check the number of parking lever clicks. Adjust the lever before breaking-in the lining surface.
WARNING: Perform this operation with an assistant, in a safe area.

Park the vehicle on a firm, level surface.
Parking Brake Lever And Spring Scale
2. Keep the parking brake lever release button pushed with a piece of tape.
3. Attach a spring scale to the center of the lever grip.
4. Have an assistant pull the parking brake lever up with 88 N (19.8 lbf) of force while you drive the vehicle at about 31 mph (50 km/h) for 400 m
(1/4 mile).
5. Release the button, and park the vehicle for 5 - 10 minutes to allow the drums to cool. Repeat step 4.
6. Check the parking brake lever adjustment
