Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

Removal

1.

Raise and support front of vehicle, remove tire and wheel assembly.

2.

Remove brake caliper and support assembly, followed by hub and rotor.

3.

Remove two bolts retaining the tie rod end link and move the link aside. Remove the remaining two bolts and remove the dust shield and adapter.

4.

Remove the cotter pins and nuts from the lower and upper ball joints.

5.

Disconnect knuckle from ball joints and remove knuckle.

Installation

1.

Reverse procedure to install steering knuckle. Torque dust shield and adapter to 29 ft. lbs., torque ball joints to 75 ft. lbs. plus any additional
torque to align cotter pins. Adjust wheel bearings as previously described.
