Axle Shaft Assembly: Service and Repair

DISASSEMBLY

Double Offset Joint (DOJ)

1.

Remove DOJ inner and outer boot clamps then slide boot towards BJ assembly.

Remove circular clip and withdraw shaft then remove six balls with a screwdriver, Fig. 3.

Rotate case half a pitch so ball guide lines up with projected portion of ball retainer then slide towards boot to remove.

Remove snap ring holding ball retainer on center shaft then remove ball retainer along with cage and boot, Figs. 4 and 5.

5.

Inspect all parts for abnormal wear, cracks and damage.

Birfield Joint (BJ)
    The BJ assembly is non-serviceable with the exception of boot replacement.

1.

Disassemble and remove DOJ assembly from center shaft.

2.

Remove boot clamps and slide boot towards inboard side of center shaft to remove.

3.

Inspect all parts for abnormal wear, cracks and damage.
