Disassembly

Fig. 8 Distributor exploded view.

Refer to Fig. 8, during disassembly procedure. 

1.

Apply alignment marks on distributor and cylinder head, then remove distributor assembly from engine.

2.

Remove distributor cap, rotor and harness connector.

3.

Remove vacuum advance ground terminal, vacuum control attaching screw and vacuum advance.

4.

Remove retractor outer cover, then pull retractor from shaft using a suitable tool.

5.

Remove IC igniter and breaker plate assembly.

6.

Remove stator and magnet, then the IC igniter.

7.

Remove pin collar and ring using suitable tools.

8.

Remove governor shaft and rotor shaft.

9.

Remove governor weight and governor springs from the shaft.

Inspection

1.

Check distributor cap and rotor for cracks, burning, corrosion and wear.

2.

Ensure distributor cap carbon contact are approximately .087 inch or longer.

3.

Check all disassembled parts for cracks and damage, replace defective parts as required.

Assembly

To assemble, reverse disassembly procedure, noting the following:

1.

Measure air gap using a suitable thickness gauge. If air gap is not .012-.020 inch, adjust air gap by loosing two screws and moving igniter unit.

2.

When installing governor weight springs, ensure smaller tapered ends of the spring is secured to lower side of hook.

3.

Carefully align rotor shaft notches and governor shaft notches.

4.

Install new collar pin and stake pin using suitable tools.

5.

Align scribe marks on breaker plate assembly and at housing.

6.

Roll pin notch and retractor notch should be parallel when roll pin is inserted into retractor.
