Front Hub (2WD) - Grease Leakage

1991-97 RODEO (UC) 2WD FRONT HUB GREASE LEAKAGE

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1991-97 Rodeo (UC) 2WD models before VIN V4310288.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Some affected vehicles may experience grease leakage from the left and/or right front hubs. This leakage may be due to an improper seal at the front hub
cover.

If diagnosis indicates that an improper seal is the cause of this condition, remove the original liquid gasket from the left and right front hub and hub
cover and replace the gasket with a new paper front hub gasket (Part No. 8-97168-479-0), using the procedure described in this Service Bulletin.

NOTE

The following  procedure applies to both the left and right front hubs.

REMOVAL

1.

Front Wheel With Tire
^

Remove front wheel with tire.

2.

Front Hub Cover
^

Remove six hub cover mounting bolts and remove front hub cover from front hub.

3.

Liquid Gasket
^

Scrape dried liquid gasket from front hub cover and front hub.

IMPORTANT!

Be sure to clean off any leaked grease from around the outside of the front hub or on the wheel.

INSTALL

1.

Front Hub Gasket
^

Place new paper front hub gasket (Part No. 8-97168-479-0) onto front hub and align mounting holes in gasket with mounting holes in front
hub.

2.

Front Hub Cover
^

Position front hub cover onto front hub and secure with six mounting bolts. Tighten mounting bolts to 43 lb. ft. (59 Nm) each.

3.

Front Wheel With Tire
^

Reinstall front wheel with tire.
Tighten lug nuts to 87 lb. ft. (118 Nm) each.
