Lateral Accelerometer: Description and Operation

Accelerometer

FUNCTION

The wheel speed sensors are supplemented with an accelerometer to detect wheel lock-up during four-wheel-drive operation.

SIGNALS THE EBCM

The accelerometer sends a signal to the EBCM ranging from 1 volt up to 4 volts, depending on vehicle motion. The accelerometer gives a
reference voltage of approximately 2.5 volts when the vehicle is standing still or cruising at one set speed.

During Deceleration - the signal voltage coming from the deceleration will drop from 2.5 volts to about 1 volt, depending on the rate of
deceleration. The greater the deceleration, the lower the voltage reading.

During Acceleration - the signal voltage coming from the accelerometer will increase from 2.5 volts to about 4 volts. The accelerometer is
located inside the rear console, rear of the parking brake handle assembly The accelerometer is mounted on a bracket. This bracket is secured to
the floor by two screws.
