RWAL EBCM Inputs And Outputs

CODE STORAGE

EBCMs can store one diagnostic trouble code only while the ignition key is in the ON or ACC position. When the ignition key is turned to the
OFF position, or the vehicle is restarted, any diagnostic trouble code in the memory will be erased.

Clear Memory - to make sure all codes are clear. The EBCM can only store one diagnostic trouble code in its memory. If more than one fault
occurs, only the first fault will be stored. It is very important to clear the EBCM memory and test drive a vehicle after RWAL repairs, to make sure
that other system faults do not exist.

EBCM FUNCTIONS

The EBCM is a microprocessor which performs the following.

Receives information from several switches and the speed sensor.

Compares this information to preprogrammed values.

Sends output as necessary to the anti-lock hydraulic valve assembly and indicator lamps.

SELF CHECKS

Each time the ignition switch is turned from OFF to ON, the EBCM does a self-check of its internal circuits and of the RWAL system circuitry.
During normal driving and braking, the EBCM continues to check wiring condition, anti-lock hydraulic valve assembly function, and other
possible fault areas. If a fault is noted at any time, the EBCM will:

Immediately shut down the RWAL system (returning the vehicle to normal, non-RWAL braking capability)

Light the "Rr ABS" and "BRAKE" indicator lamps

Store a trouble code in its memory to aid in diagnosis.

FAIL-SAFE

In the rare event that the anti-lock hydraulic valve assembly does not respond to RWAL system shutdown, the EBCM will blow an internal fuse
pellet to physically open the electrical circuit to the valve assembly and prevent the valve from having any effect on brake hydraulic pressure.
