Hydraulic Assembly
Gear Tension Relief
WARNING: Always perform the "Gear Tension Relief Function" prior to removing the hydraulic modulator/motor pack assembly from the
vehicle.
When the displacement cylinder pistons are in the "home" position, each motor has prevailing torque. This torque results in "gear tension", or force on
each gear that makes motor pack separation difficult. To avoid injury, or damage to the gears, the Gear Tension Relief Function briefly reverses each
motor to eliminate the prevailing torque.
WITH SCAN TOOL
The "Gear Tension Relief Function" can be performed with the TECH 1 Scan tool.
^
Select Miscellaneous Test (F4) from the "Select Mode" menu, then select Gear Tension Relief (F5)
WITHOUT SCAN TOOL
The "Gear Tension Relief Function" can be performed when enabling flash code mode (jumping terminal "H" to terminal "A") and then jumping
terminal "H" (diagnostic terminal) to 12 volts.
Once gear tension relief sequence is enabled, the "ABS" indicator will not flash DTCs. When the "ABS" indicator begins flashing "ON" and
"OFF" continuously, the gear tension relief sequence is complete.
