Front Axle

TOOLS REQUIRED

J-8614-01: Holding Wrench

PREPARATIONS: Raise the vehicle and support it at the frame. The hoist must remain under the front axle housing.

REMOVAL   

1. Remove the front propeller shaft.

NOTE:  For vehicle with automatic locking hub, the front wheel hub may lock while performing propeller shaft removal. In such a case, free the
front wheels from hoist or jack and turn the front wheel manually to unlock the front wheel hub.

2. Drain the front axle oil. Place the drain pan under the vehicle and drain the axle oil through the drain plug.

3. Remove the flange nut and flange using special tool after raising up its caulked parts completely. Use Holding wrench: J-8614-01. Before

removing flange nut, apply setting marks to pinion gear and flange nut with chalk. Note the number of threads of pinion gear that protrude from the
flange nut. This will help to obtain proper pinion bearing preload after reinstallation, and avoid overtightening.

4. Remove the oil seal.

INSTALLATION
