Timing Chain: Service and Repair
Use this procedure only after removing the Timing Belt. See: Timing Belt

1.
Remove valve cover.
2.
Remove camshaft pulley, then front plate.
3.
Remove camshaft bracket, then camshaft.
4.
Remove timing chain, then chain tensioner.
5.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Align mating mark on camshaft sprockets with that on timing chain as shown in Fig. 42.
b. Ensure the embossed characters RH, LH, IN and EXH on the camshaft.
c. Install each camshaft with chain and chain tensioner on cylinder head.
d. Recheck timing chain alignment marks.
e. Torque camshaft bracket retaining bolts to 7.4 ft. lbs.
f.
Torque front plate retaining bolts to 12 ft. lbs.
g. Torque camshaft pulley retaining bolts to 41 ft. lbs.
