Intake Air Plenum: Service and Repair

Common Chamber Removal

REMOVE

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable and remove air cleaner assembly.

2.

Disconnect accelerator cable from throttle body and cable bracket.

3.

Disconnect canister vacuum hose from VSV.

4.

Disconnect air vacuum hose from VSV.

5.

Disconnect vacuum booster hose from common chamber.

6.

Disconnect connectors from IACV, TPS, MAP, canister VSV, EGR VSV, MAT and vacuum tank VSV.

7.

Disconnect high tension cables from cylinder head cover.

8.

Disconnect DIS module connectors, remove three bracket bolts, and remove DIS assembly with plug wires.

9.

Remove four bolts securing throttle body.

10.

Disconnect vacuum hoses on canister VSV and EGR VSV from throttle body.

11.

Disconnect pressure regulator vacuum hose from common chamber.

12.

Disconnect PCV hose from common chamber duct.

13.

Disconnect canister purge hose from common chamber duct.

14.

Remove EGR valve and four pipe securing bolts from common chamber and exhaust manifold.

15.

Remove four bolts and nuts, and three bracket bolts securing common chamber duct and remove duct.

16.

Disconnect water hose from throttle body.  Pinch hose with pinch-off pliers to prevent water leakage.

17.

Remove six bolts, two nuts, and three bracket bolts securing common chamber and remove chamber.

REFIT  

Reverse steps to refit.  Tighten fasteners to:

Common chamber bolts and nuts

17 ft lb (24 Nm)

EGR valve assembly bolts

78 in lb (9 Nm)

Throttle body and DIS module assembly bolts

16 ft lb (22 Nm)

Adjust accelerator cable.  Refer to Powertrain Management/Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Throttle Cable/Linkage/Adjustments.
