AFFECTED VEHICLES
1992-93 Trooper (UX) models equipped with automatic transmission before VIN 7901970.
SERVICE INFORMATION
When driving 45-55 mph in 4th gear with the torque converter locked up, some affected vehicles may experience a cyclic noise coming from the transfer
case. To reduce the noise, install special noise insulation tape (listed in "Parts Information" section of this Bulletin) under the shift lever assembly,
following the procedure outlined in this Service Bulletin.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
To reduce the cyclic noise, install noise insulation tape (listed in the "Parts Information" section of this Service Bulletin) to the shift lever assembly as
follows:
1.
Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
2.
Remove the transmission skid plate.
3.
Disconnect the gear selector shift linkage by removing the cotter pin from the linkage (Figure 1).
4.
Lower the vehicle.
5.
Remove the transfer lever knob.
6.
Remove the front console (8 screws).
7.
Disconnect the shift indicator light connector and the WINTER/POWER mode switch connectors.
8.
Disconnect the ignition key interlock cable.
