Parking Brake System: Adjustments

    All brakes are self-adjusting. The front brakes are adjusted as the vehicle moves slowly back and forth while applying the service brakes. The
rear brakes are adjusted as the parking brake is applied and released. On 1988 Trooper II models, the rear discs are self-adjusting. However,
the following preliminary rear brake adjustment should perform after the brakes have been relined or replaced.

Ensure parking brake is fully released.

Rotate adjusting nut on second relay lever rod, Fig. 2, until all slack is removed from cable. Secure adjusting nut in this position with locknut.

Apply approximately 66 lbs. of force to pull parking brake lever to the fully applied position three or four times.

Check that total travel of parking brake lever is 12-14 notches. If lever travel is not within specifications, the adjusting nut must be reset.
