Parking Brake Shoe: Service and Repair
Parking Brake Shoe Replacement
1.
Remove rear caliper.
2.
Release parking brake, then remove rotor.
3.
Fully loosen adjuster (1) and remove shoe hold-down springs (7).
4.
Ease two shoes (2) complete with adjuster assembly away from torque plate (6).
5.
Remove adjuster upper return spring (4), brake shoes and lower return spring (3).
6.
Install new brake shoes with lower spring in position.
7.
Connect adjuster and upper spring to shoes and secure with hold-down springs.
8.
Center brake shoes and wind out adjuster until disc/drum can be installed.
9.
Install and tighten disc/drum securing screw.
10.
Continue to adjust shoes until they touch disc/drum. Be sure parking brake lever is fully OFF and reconnect parking brake cable.
11.
Loosen adjuster until disc/drum can be rotated without excessive drag. Light running contact is permissible.
12.
Lift caliper carrier into position and tighten securing bolts.
13.
Install lockwire to lower bolt and twist up to correct length for upper bolt.
14.
Install brake pads and caliper.
