Idle Speed: Adjustments

1.

Warm engine to operating temperature.

2.

Stop engine and disconnect temperature sensor connector at thermostat housing.

3.

Fit a 100 ohm 1/4 watt resistor across harness connections.

NOTE: Be sure resistor leads do not touch any metal parts of car.

Turn ignition "ON" and wait 10 seconds.  Idle stepper motor should now be fully wound in.  Verify by holding motor and feeling for vibration. 

5.

Before turning ignition "OFF," unplug idle speed stepper motor harness connector.

6.

Remove resistor from harness connector and refit connector to sensor.

7.

Start engine and check idle speed.  Adjust air bypass screw with 7/32" allen key to a base idle speed of:

500 - 550 rpm.

8.

Reconnect stepper motor connector.  Idle should now be:

COLD: 800 rpm in "N"
HOT:  700 rpm in "N"
