Front Bumper Reinforcement: Service and Repair
Panel Replacement Operations
Panel Replacement Operations
NOTE:
-
The hatched out sections in some illustrations are the areas to be discarded from the service parts.
-
For simplification, the following diagrams show only the type of weld used in replacement where this varies from that used in production.
-
When carrying out welding operations observe the following:
-
Resistance spot welds used in the production process must be reproduced if at all possible when replacing panels and such welds should be
spaced approx. 30 mm apart.
-
Make test coupons of the same metal gauge and materials to ensure that welding equipment and techniques used will produce satisfactory
joints when replacing weld on panels.
-
Single sided welding is not considered acceptable for safety, critical and or load bearing components
-
M.l.G. Plug welds must be used:
-
If a satisfactory spot weld cannot be reproduced.
-
in repair only when there is limited / no access to make a resistance spot weld.
-
The recommended replacement welds in the panel replacement diagrams are denoted by the symbols in the following diagram.
