Extension Housing: Service and Repair
1.
On 1989-90 XJS models, remove torquatrol unit and fan blade as follows:
a. Loosen fan blade to torquatrol attaching bolts, then pull torquatrol unit clear of fan pulley face and remove attaching nuts.
b. Remove torquatrol and fan blade as an assembly.

On all models, install engine lifting tool No. 18G 1465 to rear studs of intake manifold, then engine lifting service tool No. MS 53 across the
fender apron channels and take the weight off engine.
3.
Ensure selector lever is in Neutral position, then raise and support vehicle.
4.
Drain transmission fluid, then remove front pipe to intermediate pipe clamp and sealing ring, then disconnect front pipe from intermediate pipe.
5.
Support transmission with a jack, then remove rear mounting to body attaching bolts and lower transmission and mounting assembly.
6.
Remove driveshaft, then place transmission in Park position.
7.
Remove drive flange tab ring, nut and flange.
8.
Remove rear housing attaching bolts, then the housing and gasket.
9.
Remove oil seal.
10.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use oil seal replacement tool No. JD 102 or equivalent, to install seal.
b. Tighten extension housing to case bolts and output flange nut to specifications.
c. On 1989-90 XJS models, ensure paint marks on torquatrol unit are aligned.
