To prevent water from entering the trunk via the trunk lock barrel on 1990 MY Sedan Range vehicles, a revised trunk lock finisher base has been
introduced beginning with VIN 616664. The revised base incorporates water drainage channels on the lower edge, (Fig. 1).

If trunk water ingress occurs on pre-vin 616664 vehicles, the following procedure should be used to allow water to drain from the trunk base finisher:

Open the trunk lid and remove the chrome base finisher and the rubber mounting gasket.

Place the rubber gasket on a block of wood and place the block on a work bench.

From the gasket center, measure 50 mm in each direction along the bottom edge of the gasket. Using a 5 mm hole punch, cut out holes at the
2 x 50 mm measured positions on the gasket, (Fig. 2).

Install the base and gasket onto the trunk lid.
