KEYPOINTS: ENGINE KNOCK NOISE DUE TO LOOSE BOLT
An engine knock which may decrease as the engine reaches normal operating temperature can be caused by a loose crankshaft pulley center bolt.
If this condition occurs, the bolt must be re-torqued using the following procedure:

Disconnect battery.

Remove the nuts which mount the cooling fan assembly to the water pump.
NOTE:
Observe the relationship of the water pump pulley to the fan drive unit fan for assembly purposes.

Remove the cooling fan assembly from the water pump studs and remove the cooling fan assembly mounting nuts.
^
Remove the cooling fan assembly from the water pump studs and position the assembly in the fan cowl.
^
Hold the crankshaft pulley with tool 18G1437 and adaptor ring 18G1437-1. Attach the tool to the crankshaft pulley threaded holes using two bolts,
8 x 60 x 1.25 mm.

Torgue the crankshaft pulley center bolt to 150 ft. lbs. (203.5 N-m).
