Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch: Testing and Inspection

Inertia Switch

1.

Ensure all doors are shut except driver's.

2.

Sit in driver's seat. Make sure gear selector is not in "R" position.  Close and lock driver's door.  Pressing down the door lock button will also lock
other doors.

3.

Switch ignition "ON" (position "II").  Automatic seat belts should move to "restraining" position.

4.

Raise test/reset button protruding through top of inertia switch cover.

5.

When test/reset button is raised, doors should unlock, seat belts should remain in "restraining" position and instrument panel display should switch
"OFF."

6.

Open front doors.  Seat belts should not move from "restraining" position.

7.

Leave front doors open and reset inertia switch by depressing test/reset button.  Instrument display should come "ON" and seat belts should move to
"parked" position.

8.

Lock and unlock doors to ensure central locking system functions properly.  Switch ignition "OFF."

9.

Replace inertia switch if it fails to perform as described.
