Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair

1.
Install new shaft seal to pump housing. Lightly smear with petroleum jelly and insert shaft, splined end first.
2.
Install dowel pins (1) and thrust plate. Ensure port face is facing out (2) over dowel pins. Fig. 21.
3.
Install rotor (counterbore face first), to shaft splines and secure with a new circlip. Do not overstretch circlip.
4.
Slide pump ring over dowel pins. Ensure rotation arrow is visible. Fig. 22.
5.
Install vanes into slots in rotor with radial edges outermost. Lightly smear new pressure plate O-ring seal with petroleum jelly and insert in groove
of pump housing.
6.
Install pressure plate with spring recessed face outermost and press firmly into O-ring seal.
7.
Lightly smear other new O-ring with petroleum jelly and insert into outer groove of pump housing.
8.
Install spring and place end plate into position.
9.
Place spring ring with gap away from extractor hole in pump body.
10.
Place assembly under a press and carefully depress end plate until spring ring can be moved into groove.
