Temperature Sensor (Gauge): Service and Repair

ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE TRANSMITTER

WARNING!  THE PROCEDURE DESCRIBED BELOW SHOULD ONLY BE CARRIED OUT ON A COLD ENGINE. 

Disconnect the battery earth lead.
Open the bonnet and fit wing protection covers. 
Slacken the coolant reservoir cap to remove any residual pressure.
Tighten the cap.
Disconnect the coolant temperature transmitter lucar connector.
Remove the coolant temperature transmitter.
Thoroughly clean the transmitter housing.

Apply sealant, fit and torque tighten a new coolant temperature transmitter.
Reconnect the lucar connector.
Remove the wing protection covers and close the bonnet.
Reconnect the battery earth lead.
