Timing Component Alignment Marks: Service and Repair
Camshaft Setting Tool 303-530
Crankshaft Setting Peg 303-531/645
Setting engine timing after cylinder head service or replacement of a timing chain requires the use of special tools.
WARNING Failure to use the required special tools will cause severe engine damage.
-
Remove bolt [1], which secures the crankshaft position sensor to the flywheel housing. Remove sensor and allow it to hang free under the engine.
-
Remove the access grommet [2] (for torque converter bolts) from the housing.
-
Install the damper securing bolt (old one) to the crankshaft, hand-tight only.
CAUTION: Do not rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise. The timing chains may bind causing engine damage.
-
Rotate the crankshaft until the triangular arrow indent on the drive plate is visible through the access hole; confirm that the timing flat on each
camshaft is uppermost.
