Issue:

On some 2002 MY-ON X-TYPE vehicles, the torque converter protection wax can soften and run on to the torque converter housing giving the
appearance of an engine oil leak. This Technical Bulletin provides information to help avoid the misdiagnosis of engine oil leaks and unnecessary
replacement of engine sump gaskets.

Action:

In case of a customer complaint, refer to the procedure outlined below.

1.

Using a suitable cleaner, clean the wax/oil from the torque converter housing/sump area, then road test the vehicle, and recheck for the oil leak.

2.

Refer to Illustration 1 for the appearance of torque converter wax (with no engine oil leak).
