Powertrain 4L80-E Transmission - Noisy Rear Mount - Modification Procedure

ISSUE:
Some vehicles equipped with Powertrain 4L80-E transmissions within the above VIN ranges, may exhibit a knock or squeak from the area of the
transmission tunnel. The noise may be traced to movement of the damper peg of the rear transmission mounting against the surrounding foam bush.

An improved peg and bush was introduced in production from VIN 734672 for the XJR and 738562 for the XJ12.

Action

In case of a customer complaint of transmission mount noise on a 1995 MY XJR or XJ12 within the above VIN ranges, follow the applicable
instructions:

XJR Models

1.

Place vehicle on lift. Disconnect the battery negative cable.

2.

Raise the vehicle and loosen the clamp at the joint of the exhaust system down pipe to the intermediate pipe. Disconnect the intermediate pipe
from the down pipe.

3.

Lower the vehicle and cover the fenders.

4.

Remove the 2 intake manifold nuts at the rear and disconnect the engine ground lead. Install an engine lifting bracket (18G 1465) on the manifold
studs.

5.

Align tool set MS53 on the fender channels and with the rear lifting bracket. Tighten the nut of the support hook to support the engine.
