Component Replacement

ISSUE:
Individual brake accumulator components should be installed instead of entire accumulator assemblies.
ACTION:
To diagnose brake system power boost complaints, refer to Technical Bulletins 66-14 and 66-5.
If the brake accumulator vessel is faulty, replace only the vessel using the procedure below.
If an accumulator switch is faulty, replace only the faulty switch using the procedure on the following page.
Vessel Replacement Procedure:

Pump the brake pedal until there is firm resistance.

Cut and remove the wire connector straps, (Fig. 1 A).
^
Unplug the connector RS 25, (Fig. 1 B).
^
Raise the vehicle on a lift.
^
Thoroughly clean the accumulator and pipe connections.
^
Unscrew the union nuts and disconnect the pipes from the accumulator, (Fig. 1 C).
^
Install protective caps/plugs to the pipes and accumulator.
^
Remove the accumulator clamp nut and bolt, (Fig. 1 D).
^
Remove the accumulator assembly.
^
Place the accumulator assembly on a work bench and remove the plug from the accumulator manifold non-return valve union.
^
To prevent dirt ingress, place a piece of adhesive tape over the non-return valve union orifice.
^
Clamp the accumulator in a vise with soft-faced jaws across the non-return valve union face and the casting.
^
Using a strap wrench, unscrew and remove the accumulator vessel.
