Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair
VARIABLE RELUCTANCE COIL
Crankshaft Sensor
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove securing clips and unplug coil connector.
3.
Remove bolts holding coil housing to front of engine. Remove coil and housing as a unit.
4.
With a suitable allen key, remove coil from housing.
5.
Reverse steps to install new coil. Ensure that electrical connection is clean and secure.
TOOTHED GEAR (TIMING RING)
Crank Sensor & Toothed Gear
1.
Remove air cleaner cover and element.
2.
If so equipped, remove A/C drive belt and A/C pulley (outer pulley bolted to crankshaft damper).
3.
Loosen alternator belt adjusting nut, link arm adjusting nut and pivot bolt. Move alternator toward engine and remove belt.
4.
Fit Service Tool 18G 1437 (or equivalent locking tool) to front of crankshaft damper and tighten securing bolts. Wedge tool against front
crossmember and remove damper retaining bolt.
5.
Remove Service Tool 18G 1437 and fit Service Tool 18G 1436 (or other suitable puller) to damper. Tighten tool center bolt and pull damper from
crankshaft.
6.
Remove bolts securing toothed gear to damper. Lift off old gear and bolt on new gear in its place.
7.
Reverse the above steps to complete installation. Torque nuts and bolts to specification.
Timing Ring To Damper
12 - 14 ftlb (16 - 19 Nm)
Crank Pulley To Crankshaft
150 ftlb (203.5 Nm)
