Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
Removal/Installation

1.

Place drain pan below pump. Loosen clamp securing reservoir hose to pump.

2.

Disconnect and plug hose from pump.

3.

Loosen union (1) securing rack feed hose (2) to pump. Disconnect hose. Fig. 6.

4.

Allow pump and hose to drain. Discard O-ring and plug hose.

5.

Remove bolts (1) securing pump assembly to engine. Remove pump assembly. Fig. 7.

Remove drive coupling (2) from pump. Fig. 7.

7.

Connect power steering pump drive dog removal/adapter tool No. JD119 or equivalent, to a vise.

8.

Using power steering pump drive dog removal tool No. 18G-1445 or equivalent, connect but do not tighten nut and bolt to tool No. JD119.

9.

Install but do not tighten clamp bolts to drive dog. Assemble pump to tool and engage clamp bolts in slots of service tool No. JD119.

10.

Tighten clamp bolts and nuts. Press pump from drive dog.

11.

Remove assembly from vise, then remove clamp bolts, nuts and tool bolt from pump.

12.

Remove drive dog from tool, then the bolts securing pump to mounting. Remove casing from pump.

13.

Reverse procedure to install. Fill reservoir and bleed system.
