Parking Brake Pad: Service and Repair

Parts required:

Handbrake pad set - Jaguar part number JLM9518 or equivalent
Retractors - Jaguar part number 9750

Handbrake Caliper

1.

Remove handbrake calipers. 

2.

Loosen nut securing pads to brake pad carriers, then remove pads.  Be sure to note positioning of pads so they are not fitted incorrectly.

NOTE:The calipers should be checked for proper self-adjusting operation, before they are refitted to the car.

Fit new pads and carefully secure them to the carriers.  Be sure pads are fitted properly.

4.

Adjust caliper by by holding one carrier and rotating the other, until a dimension of 0.75 in (19 mm) between pad surfaces, is reached.  This will
assist in refitting.

5.

Place caliper into rear suspension unit.  Long carrier arm should be towards inside of brake disc.

6.

Slide caliper up around brake disc and position into mounting bracket.

7.

Check mounting holes with a mirror for alignment. 

8.

Fit retractor and recheck alignment with mirror.

9.

Fit tab washer plate and threaded mounting pins.  Be sure the pins engage the caliper holes. (It is easy to miss one!)  It is recommended that the
short carrier is pinned first.

10.

Tighten mounting pins and bend lock tabs.

11.

Operate caliper lever(s) several times to adjust pad clearance.

12.

Reconnect return springs and cable.
