A modification kit to improve the hot start capabilities of certain XJ6 and Vanden Plas vehicles is available under P/N RTC-3002K.
The fuel rail thermal switch described in Part B of the fitting instructions has already been fitted to some late vehicles at the factory.
The following fitting instructions are applicable:
PART A - VACUUM OPERATED CANISTER VALVE
1.
Jack up vehicle and remove right front wheel.
2.
Remove carbon canister noting position of the pipework. Discard existing canister to engine breather rubber hose.

Refer to Figure 1 and assemble vacuum valve, A with hoses and reducers B, C, D, & E. Fit long vacuum hose, F, to the vacuum valve.
4.
Remove blanking plug on inner fender two inches forward of horn relay holes and fit grommet, X.
5.
Fit assembled vacuum valve and hoses to the carbon canister.
Fit the new breather hose, R, to canister using existing hose clip.
6.
Refit canister in an inverted position ensuring that the large diameter breather pipe is at the bottom.
7.
Connect breather hose, D, to the metal engine breather pipe, and route the long vacuum hose through the grommet fitted in operation 4.
8.
Route the vacuum line, F, beneath the air flow meter following the fuel line where possible. Remove the existing vacuum pipe at the throttle body
fitting the short vacuum hose, G, to the vacuum pipe stub.
9.
Using the "T" piece, H, supplied, connect the new vacuum line to the vacuum line removed from the throttle body. (Fig. 1)
10.
Install blanking plug, S, in original hole through inner fender for C canister breather hose.
11.
Refit the road wheel and torque to proper specification. (I.E. 45-65 ft. lbs.)
