Thermo Time Switch: Testing and Inspection

Equipment required for this test is a stop watch, ohmmeter, single pole switch, jumper wire, thermotime switch and a thermometer.
Check coolant temperature before following test procedure. Check rated value of thermotime switch which is stamped on switch body.

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Disconnect electrical connector from thermotime switch.

3.

Connect ohmmeter between W terminal and ground. A high resistance reading should be obtained, if coolant temperature is higher than rated value
of switch. If a low resistance reading is indicated, replace switch.

4.

Connect ohmmeter between W terminal and ground. A low resistance reading should be obtained, if coolant temperature is lower than rated value
of switch.

5.

Connect jumper wire from battery to G terminal on thermotime switch.

6.

Using a stopwatch, check time delay between switch and indication on ohmmeter changing from high to low resistance. Delay period should
approximate to time table, Fig. 11.
