Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S), Downstream

Remewal Procedure

NOTE:

-

HO2S sensors and harness connectors are not identified as to position, so when sensors, harness or exhaust are changed they must be labelled to
enable correct reconnection and location. Failure to observe this precaution may require the use of a Jaguar Diagnostic equipment to
re-program the ECM.

The downstream heated oxygen sensors (H02S) are situated after the catalytic converters. The sensor, harness and connector must be renewed as a
whole.

1. Open the hood and fit a wing cover.
2. Open the trunk and remove the battery cover.
3. Disconnect the battery ground lead.

NOTE:  The downstream H02S harness connectors are bracket mounted on the left-hand side of the engine above the bell housing.

4. Remove the bolt securing the H02S harness connector bracket to the inlet manifold.
5. Identify the downstream H02S harness connector.
6. Release the tang securing the H02S harness connector to the bracket and disconnect.
7. Cut and remove the ratchet strap securing the harness below the mounting bracket.
8. Release the appropriate harness from the harness clips around the engine / bell housing joint.
9. Remove the bolt securing the harness "P" clip at the right hand side of the bell housing.

10. Raise the vehicle.
11. Displace and remove the harness "P" clip from the H02S harness.
12. Remove the sensor from the catalytic converter.
13. Fit and fully seat a new sealing washer to a new HO2S.
14. Fit and tighten the H02S to the catalytic converter.

Torque to 17.7 lb ft (24 Nm).

15. Insert the HO2S harness into the "P" clip. Fit and tighten the "P" clip to bell housing securing bolt.
16. Lower the vehicle.
17. Route the harness across the bell housing joint to the left-hand side of the engine, inserting the harness into the clips.
18. Reconnect the H02S connector and fully seat in the mounting bracket.
19. Secure the HO2S harnesses together beneath the mounting bracket with ratchet straps.
20. Align the connector mounting bracket to the inlet manifold and fit and tighten the securing bolt.
21. Reconnect battery ground lead.
22. Refit battery cover and close trunk.
23. Remove wing cover and close hood.
