Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair

Open the door.

-

Center the tires and remove ignition key.

-

Remove pad from center of steering wheel.  See: Steering Wheel/Service and Repair

When working with Airbags, note precautions.  See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Service Precautions

-

Loosen the nut securing the wheel to shaft, do not fully remove.

-

Pull the steering wheel to release from the shaft.

-

Remove the securing nut and steering wheel.  See: Steering Wheel/Service and Repair

-

Remove the cancellation boss securing screws and remove boss.

-

Remove the instrument illumination rheostat knob.

-

Remove the screws securing the lower nacelle and remove.  See: Service and Repair

-

Remove the screws securing the upper nacelle and remove.  See: Service and Repair

-

Using a suitable punch remove the steering column lock bolts.

-

Remove the column lock / switch assembly from column.

-

Release the igniton switch retaining tags.

-

Remove the ratchet strap securing the harness.

-

Disconnect the switch harness multi plug and discard the lock.

-

Reverse the removal procedure to reassemble.

NOTE:Align the footwell heater duct prior to securing the liner with the screws.
