Wheel Bearing

Adjustments

  Wheel bearings are adjusted by tightening the adjusting nut to eliminate all play and then backing the nut off slightly to provide play of .003-.001 inch
(.0762-.0245mm).

Front Hub Service

Disassemble

Disconnect vehicle battery ground lead.

^

Support the vehicle at the front and remove the appropriate road wheel (8)

Remove brake caliper and disc assemblies.

Note:  Do not allow the caliper to hang by either harness or flexible hose.

Warning:  DO NOT INHALE BRAKE PAD DUST, IT MAY DAMAGE YOUR HEALTH.

Prise off the hub grease cap (1 Fig. 3).

^

Remove and discard cotter pin (2 Fig. 3), pull off castellated nut retainer (3 Fig. 3).

^

Remove the hub nut and bearing washer. Carefully remove the hub assembly (4 Fig. 3) from the stub axle.

^

Hub oil seal. Prise the original seal from the spigot and discard.

^

Remove all traces of grease and dirt from the stub axle and back plate.
