ZF 4HP 24 E Automatic Transmission - Fluid Leak at Bellhousing

ISSUE:

Some 1996 MY Sedan Range vehicles, within the above VIN Range, equipped with ZF 4HP 24 E transmissions, may experience fluid leakage
originating from the gasket between the intermediate plate and the main case. This condition is caused by incorrect torque having been applied to the
bolts retaining the bell housing to the transmission unit.

ACTION:

Only in the case of a customer complaint of a bell housing fluid leak from a ZF 4HP 24 E transmission on a 1996 MY Sedan Range vehicle, within the
above VIN Range, proceed as follows:

1.

Confirm that the fluid leak is from between the intermediate plate and the main case.

2.

Remove the transmission and torque convertor.

3.

Remove the bell housing and intermediate plate; replace the intermediate plate gasket.

4.

Reinstall the intermediate plate and bell housing to the transmission unit; torque the bolts that retain the bell housing to the transmission unit to 46
Nm (34 lb. ft.)

5.

Reinstall the torque convertor and transmission unit.

6.

Road-test vehicle and check that no further leakage has occurred.
