Telephone Interference - Install Generator
Suppression Module

Issue:
Some 1998 MY-ON V8 XJ Series vehicles may experience interference noise during a telephone call, after the driver has increased the volume to
compensate for exterior noise. This condition can be resolved by installing a generator suppression module.

Action:
After verifying a customer complaint of the above condition on a 1998 MY-ON V8 XJ Series vehicle, proceed as follows:

INSTALLING GENERATOR SUPPRESSION MODULE

1.

Remove the battery cover and disconnect the battery but leave the ignition key in the lock.

2.

Raise the vehicle on a hoist which will allow the front wheels to hang free.

3.

Turn the steering to full lock to allow access to the area in front of the suspension at the right side wheel well.

4.

Install the bracket on the module, as shown in Illustration 1, with the three screws and nuts.

5.

Connect the generator link harness plug to the module fly lead plug.

6.

Install the support clip to the bracket and then install the fly-lead plug into the clip, as shown in Illustration 1.

7.

Move the wheel well liner aside to allow access to the under side of the chassis rail.

8.

Thread the remaining two screws into the tapped holes in the bottom of the chassis rail.

9.

Install the suppression module assembly on the chassis rail by placing the "keyhole" slots over the bolt heads, sliding the assembly into position
and then tightening the screws.
